What inspired you to become a Pilates teacher?

I had an injury caused by overdoing it at the gym and from an inexperienced instructor giving me a hands-on adjustment in a movement that changed the way I needed to challenge my body. I began taking Pilates because I knew it was modifiable and the instructors had plenty of knowledge from the amount of education they needed! Once I began taking Pilates regularly, I was hooked - and wanted to insure I never injured myself again from being uninformed about my own body. I became an instructor, which came sequentially after being an early childhood educator for many years. After I started teaching Pilates, I knew I found the career I was destined for!

What makes your class unique?

I love a challenge, and I want my clients to feel a challenge when they step on the mat or on the equipment. That doesn't necessarily mean every class is a high intensity, sweaty, concert volume, crazed class (which some definitely are!) but it means I want to challenge the bodies in the room that specific day. I want to challenge each body to find their proper alignment effectively and safely, and to challenge every mind to focus on mindful control of the body throughout our time together on the mat.

What's your favorite thing about teaching at PPYThrive?

Every person at Philly Power Yoga & Thrive Pilates is welcoming and really cares about our community environment. When I moved from New York City and began teaching at the studio, every client and instructor welcomed me into the studio like I had been there for years. The community that drives PPYThrive is undeniable, and it makes everyday a true pleasure to teach at the studio.

What are you doing when you're not teaching yoga/Pilates?

If I'm not teaching Pilates or TRX, I'm practicing myself, spending time with my husband and dog, or exploring the city. As recent transplants, we're loving all the delicious food and culture Philly has to offer!

What's one song that will always pump you up?
